Shower Below the Summit Poster

Shower Below the Summit comes from Hokusai's Thirty six Views of Mount Fuji and shows the mountain with a storm breaking across its lower slopes. Fuji rises in rust red with snow caught in the gullies near the summit, the sky above it graded from deep indigo down to pale blue, and banks of white cloud drawn as tight curls hold the left side. Below the treeline everything falls into near black, and three forks of salmon pink lightning cut across it. The title cartouche and the artist's signature sit at the upper left, and a cream paper margin surrounds the print.

A dark wood frame could work well here, since walnut carries the rust red and the near black base. Light oak lifts the blue if you want it brighter. Above a sideboard or in a hallway the horizontal format suits a wall you pass rather than sit with. It pairs nicely with cane, aged brass and ceramics in cream or clay.
