Fish Pattern Poster

Fish Pattern lays seven silver fish in rows across a hand brushed brown panel, each one turned the opposite way to the one above so the column reads as a weave rather than a list. The bodies are painted wet and pale, with the brush marks left visible along the flanks and a single red dot for the eye. The brown behind them is worked by hand too, uneven at the edges where the paint ran out. The cream paper shows around the panel on all four sides, left there by the brush rather than ruled.

Dark wood could work well here, since it carries the brown panel and keeps the silver cool by contrast. A thin black frame suits it if the room is already warm. In a kitchen, a dining nook or a hallway it brings a quiet, slightly odd note that holds attention. It pairs nicely with stone, pale plaster and ceramics in a matte glaze.
