Fall in Love Poster

Fall in love, painted in warm brown brush letters on an off-white ground, with a halved pear standing in for the first O. The fruit is painted properly — pale green skin, cream flesh, a thin stem and two dark seeds — while the letters stay loose and slightly irregular. The pun is the whole idea, and the restraint is what keeps it from being twee: two short lines, one piece of fruit and a great deal of empty paper. Autumn is suggested by colour rather than stated. The brush edges stay visible in every letter, so the whole thing keeps the look of something painted once.

A kitchen print above all, where the pear has something to do with the room. The off-white ground disappears against pale walls, so a frame with some presence helps — oak for warmth, black for contrast. It works in a vertical pair with another typographic print from the same hand, hung close together so the two lines of text line up. Keep it away from busy wallpaper; the empty paper is doing half the work.
