Aperture Poster

Aperture opens a black square in the middle of a dry white field and lets the edges stay ragged. The white is dragged on in short overlapping passes that leave the weave of the ground showing, while the dark centre is built from heavier, wetter strokes that catch the light differently. Neither area is flat and neither edge is straight, so the opening feels torn rather than drawn. The contrast is the whole subject: a dense middle held by a worked, broken border. It carries well at any size and suits a wall that needs an anchor.

Black frames the dark centre and makes the white border read as part of the picture, while a white frame lets the edges dissolve into the wall. It belongs in a room with concrete, steel or dark wood rather than soft pastels. Hang it on its own and give it space, since the motif is already busy at the edges. A wide mat board works if you want it quieter.
