The falls are painted in cream and blush with fine gold veining drawn through them, while two upper petals drop into near black with a comb of pale lines running down the centre. A soft sage ground shows between them and reads as air rather than as background, and it is the only part of the sheet left more or less alone. The paint is worked until the surface cracks slightly, which is what keeps something this pale from going flat.

    Styling tips

    A pale blue or soft grey frame could work well here, since it follows the sage ground and leaves the cream alone. Light oak warms it if the room runs cool. Above a sofa or a bed the close crop gives a large wall something to open into. It pairs nicely with bouclé, brushed brass and textiles in chalk white.

    Size guide
