Pale blue against the same warm brown, and the temperature of the series changes completely. The shape here is looser and more branching than its two companions, with limbs that reach into three corners and a gap running diagonally through the middle. The blue is soft and chalky, closer to painted plaster than to ink, and the dry brush texture shows through it in fine vertical lines. Against the brown it reads as cool and almost weightless. It is the one that stops the trio from being only earth tones.

The pale blue gives this one more reach than the other two: it works in a bedroom, a bathroom or a child's room as easily as a living room. Brown and dusty blue sit well with rattan, terracotta and cream textiles, and the shape is simple enough not to compete with patterned bedding. A light oak frame keeps it soft; black is too hard for the chalky blue. Hang it last in the series, where the cool note has somewhere to go.
