Apres Ski Beer Poster

A skier drops down the foam head of a pint of beer as if it were a mogul field, painted in gouache with APRÈS SKI lettered above in slate blue. The glass is built from flat amber strokes with the brush texture showing through, the head is whipped into peaks, and pale blue clouds drift past at the sides. The skier is small, red-jacketed and entirely committed. It is a one-line joke made with real paint, which is what keeps it from feeling like a meme. The brush is left visible everywhere, in the glass, the foam and the clouds, and that is what carries it.

Made for a bar corner, a kitchen or a ski cabin, and it works best where people stand rather than sit. The amber and slate blue sit easily against wood panelling and warm white, and the palette is winter without being Christmas. A dark wood frame suits the cabin reading; black makes it a graphic print. Hang it with other drink or sport illustrations and let the joke carry the group.
