The hidden gem in Gothenburg

A stone's throw away from the popular Stigbergstoget and next to the Gothenburg Maritime Museum & Aquarium, a new gem has emerged – Stigbergets Shangri-La. In the slightly hidden premises where Stigbergets Bryggeri used to brew its beer, you will now find a restaurant and bar offering a great variety of beer and exciting dishes.

You recently opened your fantastic restaurant here in Gothenburg. Tell us for those who still need to discover it! How was Shangri-La started?

It started with the idea of making the world's most wonderful workplace for us, where we can combine having fun at work and having fun in our free time. That is why we are only open from Wednesday to Friday.

What is your background? Have you worked in the restaurant industry before?

We have varied and extensive backgrounds; we have all worked in several places and other countries.

Where does the name Shangri-La come from, and what does it mean?

The name comes from Kjell Höglund's "The Myth of Shangri-La" and Nils Hultkrantz's fantasy that it is the paradise we will create. We didn't. We made a bar instead.

"We are a conceptless bar and restaurant where what governs what we do is what we think feels fun"

What should one not miss to eat and drink when visiting you?

Shangri-Lager and garlic bread.

What makes Shangri-La special? What makes you stand out from the crowd?

We are a conceptless bar and restaurant where what governs what we do is what we think feels fun.

And finally, what is the most fun thing about running Shangri-La?

To have a place where all our friends want to come, to hang out with all the nice colleagues and the fact that we are closed on weekends.
