The Hunt Poster

The Hunt shows two long-limbed sighthounds against a deep wine-red ground, one standing in profile with a second head rising behind it. The paint is worked in visible strokes over a woven surface, with muted greens, bone and soft yellow drifting through the animals and a hazy grey-green sky along the top. Fine incised plant motifs run down the left edge, which gives the whole thing the feel of an old tapestry. The palette is earthy and low-key, warm without being bright, and it settles easily into rooms with wood and stone. It brings a quiet, slightly dreamlike mood to a wall.

Oak could work well here, picking up the bone and yellow tones and keeping the wine-red grounded. It pairs nicely with bouclé, marble and pale parquet — materials with a soft surface that suits the painterly texture. Above a low chair or a sideboard it sets the mood for a whole corner without needing anything else on the wall. If your room leans cool, the warm red will do more work than a brighter piece would.
