An exhibition print of one of Ogawa Kazumasa's hand-coloured photographs of peonies, made in Yokohama in 1896. Three blooms lean out of a deep oxblood ground, their petals tinted in pale pink and cream by hand after printing, with the stamens picked out in yellow. The leaves are washed in two greens, and the darkness behind them is flat enough to make the flowers appear lit. The photographer's name is set in large type below the plate, with the title and date in small print beneath. It is botany, photography and typography in one sheet.

Product ID 487602The oxblood ground gives this more weight than most botanical prints, so it holds a living room wall as well as a bedroom one. It works with dark wood, brass and deep green textiles, and the pale pink petals keep it from going heavy. A black frame matches the type; oak softens the whole sheet. The wide cream margin is part of the design, so skip the mat board and hang it where the typography can be read.
The size of our posters always refers to the actual paper size — not the motif. Some posters include a white border that frames the artwork, similar to a passepartout. Where this is the case, it will be noted in the product description and is also visible in the product images.
Our sizes in cm and inches:
21x30 cm / 8.3x11.8"
30x40 cm / 11.8x15.7"
40x50 cm / 15.7x19.7"
50x50 cm / 19.7x19.7"
50x70 cm / 19.7x27.6"
70x100 cm / 27.6x39.4"
When choosing a frame, make sure to match it to the poster size. Our frames are designed to fit our posters exactly — a 50x70 cm poster takes a 50x70 cm frame. No trimming or adjusting needed.
