Scale does the rest: the form fills almost the whole surface. Stretched over a wooden frame, it arrives ready to hang and needs no glass. A float frame adds a shadow gap that gives the cream ground somewhere to stop.

    Styling tips

    Deep burgundy on cream is a quieter way to bring red into a room than anything floral. The piece suits a living room or a study, and the large simple shape hangs over furniture without competing with it. An oak float frame keeps it warm; left plain it reads as a stretched painting. It is the first of three by the same hand.
